Giving back to the community in Dairy Flat

The Dairy Flat Community Trust held its annual funding presentation last weekend at the Redvale Landfill and Energy Park, providing crucial financial support to a variety of local organizations and individuals.

Recipients of this year’s funding included the Dairy Flat School, the Dairy Flat and North Harbour pony clubs, the Hibiscus Coast Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren group, as well as university students and athletes from a range of sports disciplines. The funding aims to enhance educational, recreational, and community-focused initiatives in the region.

Waste Management has contributed more than $2 million to the Trust over the past two decades, ensuring sustained community investment. Each year, the Trust carefully selects recipients to support the local community’s growth and development.

“We are proud to be able to support the Dairy Flat community in this way and provide a valuable source of funding for both community and individual projects,” said Tom Nickels, Managing Director of Waste Management.

Among the long-standing beneficiaries of the Trust is Dairy Flat School, which has used past grants to construct a new school hall and expand its parking facilities. The most recent funding will facilitate the installation of a new kitchen in the hall, further enhancing the school’s infrastructure.

In addition to supporting educational institutions and community groups, the Trust has recently funded the purchase of a defibrillator, which is now housed at the local Caltex petrol station for emergency use.

The Dairy Flat Community Trust was established by WM New Zealand in 1993 when the Redvale Landfill and Energy Park began operations. Managed by elected community representatives, the Trust plays a key role in distributing grants to support local initiatives.

The recipients of the 2018 Dairy Flat Community Trust grants have now been announced, further strengthening the community through targeted financial assistance.
