For over 30 years, the Dairy Flat Community Trust has been a pillar of support for local organisations, students, and individuals. Established in 1993 as part of the Redvale Landfill and Energy Park consent, the Trust ensures that a portion of WM New Zealand’s revenue is reinvested into the community. Each year, WM New Zealand contributes significant funding to the Trust, allowing community projects, educational initiatives, and sustainability efforts to thrive. Over the last two decades, more than $2 million has been distributed, making a lasting impact in Dairy Flat.
Funding enhanced learning environments at Dairy Flat School, ensuring children have access to modern and engaging educational spaces.
Supporting local clubs with grants for uniforms and equipment, fostering community spirit and encouraging healthy lifestyles.
Packing initiatives such as native tree planting and sustainability programmes to protect and enhance the local ecosystem.
The story of the Redvale Landfill and Energy Park is documented in Hard Graft, a book on the history of Dairy Flat. Initially, there was strong opposition to the landfill, leading to the formation of the Dairy Flat Protection Society.
However, the book details how the community’s concerns were addressed, and how WM New Zealand fulfilled its promises—including environmental protection and sustained community support through the Trust.
